WHAT IT IS?
Organophosphates and carbamates are related toxins found in a large variety of commercially formulated products like flea collars, topical tick and flea products and agricultural remedies. Poisoning can be due to accidental overexposure to these products or can be due to criminal intent such as house breaking and theft. The most commonly used in malicious poisonings is aldicarb, more commonly known as Temic or ‘Two Step’. ‘Two-step’ can usually be identified as small black granules.
Please note that common household rat poisons do not fall in these groups and should NOT be treated with this poison pack.
SIGNS OF POISONING
- Salivation
- Muscle tremors
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Difficult breathing
- Seizures
- Weakness and paralysis
- Slow heart rate
- SMALL pupils
PRECAUTIONS
Carbamates and organophosphates is toxic to humans as well and it is therefore important to avoid direct contact with the source and vomit or any other body fluids from the exposed animal.
TREATMENT
Emergency treatment with this poison pack will buy your animal some time but veterinary treatment is still crucial. Phone us immediately prior to administering the poison pack to ensure that it is used in the approriate situations.
The poison kit consists of two injections that should be administered under the skin. These injections will make your dog vomit and will bind the toxins in the blood stream. Wrap your dog in a blanket to limit human exposure to the toxin and to keep him calm and warm.
Please ensure that your pet is seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible to administer further treatment.
